If you’re lucky enough to have a dining room in your home these days; you’re going to want to decorate it properly, and take full advantage of that space! We’re going to go over a few things that you should keep in mind when decorating that room, what you’re going to want to do, as well as some things that you’re going to want to avoid, some for easily overlooked reasons and others that you might not have thought of.
Color
First things first, explore a paint color other than white… Especially if you have children; you’ll thank us for that one later. Keep neutral colors for your furnishings if possible; this will then assist you with table dressings and other assortments about the room, which you can use to make it all pop! This will also help if you’re the type to decorate seasonally, you won’t be clashing with your primary set pieces.
Less is more
This usually becomes a problem because of a lack of measurement; you have to be aware of how much space you have. Movement into, around, and out of the room should be comfortable and practical. You’re going to have the family, and friends moving about often and you want the room to be functional at all times. This includes centerpieces as well as lighting fixtures. You want it to work with your environment without taking over and being a burden.
Don’t make it so busy
This works hand in hand with our last issue; sure you might not even eat in here daily, and only on occasions, but you want it to be appealing, not overbearing. Your functionality will lessen if you have to clear off the table, and the nearby hutch just to have room to move the chairs, and place the dinnerware. Control your display pieces, and other such items so that when the time comes to use the room, it’s easily done. This also helps to make the room feel less cluttered as well.
Make it part of you
While the above points are good guidelines to observe, we don’t want you to forget that this is your space and an extension of you. You’ll feel more at home, and happier in a room that reflects you correctly and doesn’t constrain you to some ‘rules and orders’ set out by decorators. Let your style show through, and you’ll love every minute you spend there.
By following these guidelines while crafting your new layout for your dining room; we assure you, you’ll have great meals, and evenings with friends and family in there. It will be comfortable and inviting, while still showing off your flair and style!
